DNS record checker
Look up a DNS record on Cloudflare and Google public DNS side by side. If a name doesn't exist (yet), it also tells you how long resolvers will remember that, which is why a brand-new subdomain can stay "not found" for a while.
Reading the result
- NOERROR with records: the name exists and has that record type. The TTL is how long resolvers may cache it.
- NOERROR, no records ("no data"): the name exists, but not with this record type. Try A or CNAME.
- NXDOMAIN: the name doesn't exist. Resolvers may cache that answer for the negative TTL shown, so a record you create now may take that long to work for someone who already looked it up. More on negative caching.
- SERVFAIL: the resolver couldn't get an answer (broken DNSSEC, unreachable nameservers…).
- Different IPs from the two resolvers are normal for big CDNs: they hand out nearby servers.
- This shows public DNS. Your own network's resolver (Pi-hole, AdGuard, router) can have its own cached answer. Compare with
nslookup nameordig nameat home.
